This webpage contains two sets of maps, plus two tools for checking wind resources in your community.


The first set is of maps of predicted wind speeds produced by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative (now part of the MA Clean Energy Center), and the MA Office of Geographical and Environmental Information (known as MassGIS).


The second set is of maps using data from MassGIS, formatted specifically for each county by cartographer Patrick Dunlavey. These maps are of all areas in each county with minimum predicted wind speeds of 6 meters per second (m/s) at 70 meters turbine hub height. Although 6 m/s wind speed is not considered commercially viable, the state is now funding studies for projects at sites with that minimum predicted speed.
