Green Berkshires was founded in 2004 by Berkshire County residents who recognized the need for a local environmental research and advocacy group to:

  • Encourage public awareness of the special characteristics of our region through scientific research, education, and recreation.
  • Highlight the interdependence of our regional economy and natural environment.
  • Work in partnership with local residents, businesses, recreation and sportsmen’s clubs, environmental groups, and cultural organizations.
  • Support projects that minimize human impact on the most fragile, vulnerable, and significant natural areas, particularly along ridgelines and waterways.
  • Challenge large-scale threats to the region’s natural, scenic, and public resources.
